Senior Mechanical Designer

Peterborough, ON Canada

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will interpret customer requirements and specifications, design products such that they best meet financial and delivery obligations whilst satisfying customer requirements, resulting in a quality system.

You will work with customers, suppliers and other Rolls-Royce departments to resolve issues and further system designs

You will be providing sound knowledge in Systems Design Integration, responsible for problem resolution and defining requirements. You will as well be designing and integrating products and product systems, and performing technical analysis, verifying products with physical and functional systems and components throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design of systems using Systems Engineering principals including the use of Robust Design tools & techniques to achieve optimum solutions at product and sub-system level.

  • Problem resolution experience including ownership of, for example: root cause investigations, problem reports, Red Tops, Safety Alert Reports (SARs), Quality Concerns, Major Quality Investigations (MQIs), Drawing Alteration Requests (DARs). Dealing with ambiguity.

  • Applying knowledge of the importance of determining, managing & flowing system level requirements.

  • Planning and management of product change, design technical approval and technical investigations.

  • Verifying that the system meets the requirements and ownership of standardisation reports.

  • Good inter-personal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate

  • Work with and co-ordinate extended (i.e. not necessarily co-located) multi-disciplinary teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • College Diploma in Mechanical Design OR

  • 4+ years of experience in Mechanical Design

  • Must be Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada for greater than 5 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and understand Technical Drawings and Technical Specification sheets

  • Solidworks CAD program proficiency

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent Communication skills (oral and written)

  • Attention to detail

  • Multi-tasking and working under pressure

  • Experience and skill in the use of all MicroSoft Office programs

  • Must be able to design new and innovative mechanical components and sub-systems that meet stated requirements with a solid knowledge of manufacturing processes.

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of typical COTS components used in custom equipment manufacture

  • Must be able to co-ordinate with other key departments (Analysis, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing) within the organization and have a reasonable understanding of their requirements, the impact they have on your design and the impact your design has on them
